Zygomatic implants in Nice: implant placement without bone grafting

As an alternative to traditional dental implants, zygomatic implants use a rapid, graft-free protocol to provide a lasting solution for patients suffering from maxillary bone resorption and wishing to regain their teeth.

What is a zygomatic implant?

Longer than a traditional dental implant, the zygomatic implant is fixed at a distance from the missing teeth, at the level of the zygomatic bones (the bones that form the cheekbones). The zygomatic implant is recommended when the jawbone lacks bone volume, preventing the placement of a conventional dental implant.

This implantology technique was developed in the 90s by Dr. Per-Ingvar Brånemark, an orthopedic surgeon considered to be the "father of modern dental implantology".

Mammadov uses only top-of-the-range implants that benefit from the most extensive clinical and scientific experience.

The zygomatic implant brings many benefits to the patient.

  • Restore functional teeth quickly,
  • Do without removable prostheses,
  • Avoid the need for bone grafting or more invasive surgery.
FAQ

Placement of zygomatic implants

Zygomatic implants are placed under general anesthesia, either as an outpatient or as an overnight hospitalization. Immediately after implant placement, during the general anaesthetic, a dental impression is taken and sent to the dental technician.

The dental technician will create a complete bridge which will be screwed onto the implants within 24 to 48 hours.

This appliance is temporary. It will be replaced by a permanent appliance a few months after the operation, while the gums stabilize after healing.

In most cases, pain following surgery is moderate and can be relieved with simple painkillers.

  • Edema of the cheeks will last from a few days to a week.
  • A hematoma around the eyes or cheeks may appear over a period of 7 to 10 days.
  • A limitation of mouth opening may be present. This gradually disappears.

A soft diet will be required during the 2-month implant healing period. All sporting activities are forbidden for 2 weeks. Alcohol and tobacco should be avoided, as they impair healing.

Any surgical procedure, no matter how well performed, carries a risk of complications. These will be explained to you during your consultation.

Implant loss is rare (1-2%), but can occur within 6 months. In this case, the implant is removed and repositioning is considered after a few weeks' healing.

Sensitivity of the cheeks and upper lip may be reduced or altered. In most cases, this condition is temporary, and recovery is complete within a few weeks to a few months. In very exceptional cases, the condition is permanent.
